ABOUT THE SHOW
Choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira, who visited the festival last year with the program " BISONTE " , will this time present his work " CARCAÇA " to the audience . In the choreography of this dance performance, the most important role is initially occupied by the movements of the legs, until the dancers gradually begin to put on a lively, rebellious and carnival-like performance.
Made up of ten dancers, including Marco da Silva Ferreira himself, the troupe is a team that physically, intuitively and unpretentiously explores its collective identity, putting together a performance from elements of the body, dance and culture.
Complicated steps, but performed with simple sneakers, will bring not only sound, but also bursts of kinetic, thermal and light energy to the stage. Physical sounds are accompanied by drumming by João Pais Filipe and electronic music by Luís Pestana. These live elements form an accelerated soundtrack that intertwines elements of traditional music (such as fanfares and marches), postmodern music and club music (techno trance, dub).
The choreographer was inspired by " CARCAÇA " in 2020. the performance "CORPOS DE BAILE" created with the "Companhia Nacional de Bailado" troupe, which became the starting point of this collective's research, allowing the analysis of the connection between identity and leg movements.
ABOUT THE CREATOR
Marco da Silva Ferreira was born in 1986. in Santa Maria da Feira. He started training in 1996, when he took up professional swimming. in 2002 gave it up and concentrated on body practice in the performing arts. His path was self-taught, exploring dance styles prevalent in urban contexts and of African origin. From 2002 to 2010 the dance direction and vocabulary became more and more diverse and closer to the means and composition of modern improvisation. in 2010 he won the television competition "So You Think You Can Dance - Portugal".
The performance "Brother" (2016) established the discourse of the artist as an author about reflections on dance and its meaning in the modern world. In his work, he creates links with the origins of dance and draws a line that is set by the modern body.
2018-2019 Marco was an associate artist at the Teatro Municipal do Porto, and from 2019 to 2021 became an associate artist at the Center Chorégraphique National de Caen in Normandy.
