Big Pulse Visiting Artists Travel to Olot for Sismògraf Festival

Sismògraf Festival was thrilled to welcome the Big Pulse Visiting Artists to Olot this April during the 2024 Festival. They stayed from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th April and they met Catalan artists, interacted with local programmers and enjoyed the performances at the Festival.

The artists that were selected for this opportunity were:

Žaneta Musilová (Tanec Festival Praha)

Aleksandar Georgiev–Ace (One Dance Festival)

Ugnė Kavaliauskaitė (New Baltic Dance)

Isabella Oberländer (Dublin Dance Festival)

Karoliina Loimaala (Zodiak Helsinki)

Anna Johansson (Dans i Blekinge)

Ana Melissa Caballero (DoSSoN Arte en Movimento)

The invited artists enjoyed the second weekend of the festival, called Sismodansa (SismoDance), during which they attended dance performances presented by local Visiting Artists who have been part of the European Dance Festival in previous editions or will be very soon.

The group arrived in Olot on the evening of Thursday 25th April evening, and were received at Hotel Faber Llull where they stayed during their visit. On Friday morning, after a short photo session at the hotel, the artists went to Teatre Principal d’Olot to attend a workshop with Tomeu Vergés. Vergés and Companyia Man Drake’s work falls somewhere between dance and theatre, but is always focused on the body.

Afterwards, the artists returned to the hotel, where they had a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, the invited artists had coffee with Marta Oliveras, Cultural Manager, Josep Quintana, the Culture Councillor of Olot City Council and Tena Busquets, Sismograf’s Artistic Director. Later in the day, the invited artists attended the dance shows of the festival, one of them being the premiere of Fairy Tales by Big Pulse Artists POCKETART, and the night finished with a party in La Carbonera.

On Saturday 27th, the performances continued all morning in the city centre, and some of the artists attended the touch tour of one of the shows. In the afternoon, they were invited for an aperitif with the local Visiting Artists, where they shared experiences and a drink. They later attended two more dance shows in the streets of Olot and, after dinner, they saw the final last performance of the programme, ‘Medium’ by Núria Guiu and Ingri Fiksdal, under the night sky.

Until next time!
