The Torinodanza Festival team chats to Amala Dianor

Big Pulse Scaling Up Artist, Amala Dianor, talks to the team at Torinodanza Festival about his work, his inspiration and what he hopes to bring to the stage and to audiences across Europe

Having trained at the prestigious CNDC school in Angers, Amala Dianor went on to work with choreographers in vastly different dance worlds including including hip hop, neo-classical, contemporary and afro-contemporary. He has since created several original choreographies – the most recent of which, Siguifin, was co-produced by Big Pulse Dance Alliance and has enjoyed a hugely successful European tour during 2022

While in Turin, Italy for Big Pulse partner festival Torinodanza where he presented Siguifin along with Man Rec and Wo-Man, Amala shared some of this thoughts and experiences about creating these works.

We asked Amala to describe Siguifin in three words – a challenge for any work, but perhaps a fitting one for a piece where things seemed to come in threes.

Amala also shared a bit about how the connection with Big Pulse Dance Alliance impacted the creation of Siguifin, an ambitious work that brings together talented dancers and choreographers from three West African countries (Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso).

And finally, Amala gives us some interesting insights on dance and dance artists in Africa and how they might influence of connect with those in Europe.
